tidy line-up including randomer, gilbr, voiski and tolouse low trax. tip! in terms of experimental, techno, very few come close to the impact that this uk producer has had on the scene. with a sound that is rarely classifiable, randomer’s dekmantel contribution is a staggered, minimally-twisted, dark, kind-of-two step, awesome thing. versatile records’ gilb’r has found himself an integral part of the dutch scene since moving to amsterdam, and brings forth his organic, percussive grooves that have helped define his music, and label to date. salon des amateurs’ tolouse low trax provides a seasoned session of amniotic, grizzled, hypnotic post-everything music, that is eerily discomforting and wonderfully pleasurable at the same time. and on the ep’s fourth track, parisian techno wizard, voiski adds layered organic, futuristic loops that work to stale the progress of time, and space.

obscurum is a two man outfit based in fuerth, germany. formed by roland l. and d. blaze, who have collaborated musically together since 1995. they also own the following labels: e-com, exalt and seico corp. known for their preference for minimal detroit techno music, they command international credibility. dark electronics and pumpin techno with an industrial tinge. several releases on e-com/exalt/seico corp. unite their typical style of production which puts the mechanical part of their music in the front row. functionality without any compromise.

after a brief hiatus, the disdat crew is back in action & ready to unveil their third release. dorian paic & federico molinari hit the ground running with “hamal,” a stomper aimed straight at the dancefloor. martinez’s “occurrence” is a psychotropic experience, with distorted whispers and glitches riding over a dark, weighty groove. on the flip, lee burton explores the ethers with “ndn”, a mind-bending work with traces of detroit nostalgia and a drexciyan influence. rounding out the ep is a reissue of the classic “you’re just a body (you’re just a freak)” by scott edwards, first released in 1998 under the name “phlash.” it sounds as fresh as it did almost 20 years, a euphoric and high-energy track guaranteed to move the dance floor.

ziúr is a female berlin-based producer and she’s bringing some future club industrial vibes to objects with her deeform ep. in 2015 she started ‘boo hoo’, a night dedicated to the queer community, along side joey hansom. bookings are inclusive, having female identifying and people of colour on the bill with a core friendly and accepting space for people to party. ziúr first made stirs when she remixed peaches “how you like my cut- from the totally nsfw but incredibly fun ‘rub’ lp. she then exploded on to the scene with her debut club vibe taiga ep on infinite machine earlier this year. ziúr has come a long way from her experimental noisy punk band ‘sissters’. punk vibes still run through the dark and bass-heavy sound of deeform ep though. her use of environmental noises, dogs barking and the like, are evocative of cityscapes and dimming lighting when the streets meet dusk. “my testing ground for my own music is when i work at a venue and i do a sound check,” she explains. “if people freak out, then i know that it’s a good track.”

the new album of dj hell zukunftsmusik keeps bringing us good news. the latest single to drop from the album, car car car, arrives with remixes from some of the scenes most enigmatic producers. after the first vinyl with remixes from roman fluegel and phil, now is the turn of fango, metropolis and bentonkunst. fango turns the track into a proper techno banger. powerful instrumental with noises from outer space. dark and raw techno remix comes from the german producer metropolis. the third and rarest remix from betonkust, keeps the esence of the original track but adding his touch with those melancholic and powerful melodies characteristics of his sound.

from the irish techno front line , rlsd land again with a heavy batch of dancefloor pressure. jon hussey has been one of the islands most celebrated djs for the best part of 20 years and makes his long overdue debut as a solo artist with dark motif. his deep understanding of the music is on display as he delivers an immersive techno cut with acidic touches & crisp bleep techno character. takaaki itoh steamlines the ideas into a pilerdriver suited for the peak hours. on the flip fran hartnett grinds out a typically floor burning track loaded with his trademark poly-rhythms and modular bleeps. rory st john rounds of proceedings with an ever shifting rhythmic workout which has an off-kilter sensibility guaranteed to make more adventurous floors freak.

elegant divide are peter oldroyd and samantha gare, based in london uk. formed in 2014 elegant divide combines the talents of classically trained vocalist samantha gare and electronic pop music pioneer peter oldroyd. peter is a well-known mix engineer and record producer, and best known for his 1980 s experimental synth pop band camera obscura. samantha, trained at the italia conti academy of theatre arts, has experienced chart success before and lends her distinctive voice to the project. elegant divide expresses the dichotomy of dark and light in electronic music with songs that explore lyrically the emotions of urban living. with the use of vintage synthesisers (moog prodidy / source, novation bass station, nord lead 2, paia fatman, polyfusion modular, yamaha dx7) and drum machines (roland tr-909 / tr-808 / tr-707 / tr-505, yamaha rx17) their sound is rich and analogue, and samantha s cool vocal delivery creates a mood that is simultaneously accessible pop and dark and haunting.

all the beats, tracks, and harmonies that vega records release have a story behind them, “union dance (louie vega remix) - dj clock featuring madame-x’s” begins where most great things do as far as we are concerned.... under a mirror ball in a dark club! one night, (well really early morning to be honest) while louie vega was vibbing in the booth, listening to timmy regisford work it out for a packed nyc dance floor a wild beat caught his ear. as louie looked over and saw the crowd confirm exactly what he felt he turned to timmy with a smile and said “that beat is hot, let me get that”, and from that moment union dance’s story began with louie vega.

does the world need more acid? yes it does! the r-a-g trio aka dutch producers ma spaventi, g-string & aroy dee deliver three raw acid-jams with aroy on the couch working the mic. the lyrics of dreadfully nervous are based on a edgar allan poe story. . dreadfully nervous (aryd s acid mix) is a gurgling brew of squelchy acid with dark vocals and pinging cowbells pulling you in all directions. coarse claps and ever more wild synths encourage you to cut loose and make for another timeless cut. dreadfully stoned is more stripped back, with a rubbery arpeggiated synth the main hook over subtle, supple drums. those dark spoken word vocals are back again and the whole thing is freaky and unsettling as a result. last of all is the bright and glistening no soul with metal hits and claps and prickly acid all bursting out of dusty chicago drums. it s raw and sure to fire the synapses just like r-a-g productions always do.

(ror remixes i - amel-ep716). nonplace label boss friedman, as well, has carved out a unique space for himself within the electronic world, logging several decades’ worth of releases that with dub-wise production sensibility, skewed humor, and riots of tone color. though each individual remix has its own character, they are all united in their ability to provide a quick cure for fatigue with the common “loop”: though not improvised, they are strung together from fleeting phrases that evolve as if they are taking on a life independent of their creators. burnt friedman’s own dramatic interpretation of “microcosmoism” pairs up his consciousness of deep bass and analog inventiveness with rohrer’s continually transforming sound objects, making for a flowing and wordless narrative that simply dares listeners to stop paying attention. feeling more like a collaboration in “real time” than a remix proper, friedman brings his characteristic ‘mad scientist’ wit to the proceedings and delivers an energetic piece that simply glows in the dark. this is complemented nicely by villalobos’ remix of “microcosmoism”. it carries the energy level of the 1st ep over to a new disk, while heavily experimenting with feelings of emotional ambiguity. at some points aggressive and at other points merely curious, this mischievous collage of attitudes feels as inspired by the questing jazz of sun ra as it is by continental techno. contemplative keyboard runs, enthusiastic spring-like percussion and malfunctioning machine chatter all coalesce to make this a most fascinating piece of multi-purpose electronic music.
